"Johnny Tremain  by Esther Forbes and the and the upcoming TAKS test are the current focus of 5th grade Language Arts.  Johnny Tremain is the story of a young apprentice in colonial times who becomes instrumental in the Revolutionary event, the Boston Tea Party.

The TAKS test is looming and these students are really getting geared up and ready for success.

Thanks parents for all of your hard work with the Monday/Wednesday homework I've been sending home."

A note from Mrs. Zacho....

I can hardly wait to work with each and everyone of you learning about fractions, transformations, stem and leaf plots, etc.  I have heard outstanding things about you and am looking forward to spending time with you.

I am excited that I will also be working with you in Social Studies—we will be looking at our country: its beginnings, its government, its people, and more.  We will talk a lot about the importance of patriotism and being good citizens.  After all, we are the greatest country.

Science

A note from Mr. White.....
Fifth grade will be focusing on the understanding of and implication of the Scientific Method. This is to insure the students understand the steps necessary to success when engaged in scientific inquiry. We have planned numerous hands-on lab activities to enhance our studies in preparation for the State Assessment. We are looking forward to a very exciting and successful year in 5th grade Science.

The fifth graders have been learning about many things this past six weeks.  We started the school year off by working with place value.  We have also learned about decimals.  The students can read, write, compare, and round decimals through the thousandths.  We have learned to multiply larger numbers.  This class has also worked on estimation of sums, differences, and products.  We work on problem solving daily, and the students are making progress in this area.  I am enjoying working with this group.  They are intelligent, energetic, and hard working.
